Bumba Meu Boi

2004, 108 x 119 cm, Acrylic on canvas

Character from Brazilian folklore. The "Bumba-Meu-Boi" or "Boi-Bumbá" is a cycle of cowhand stories represented in dance form and known across the whole of Brazil, the main theater of operations being the Parintins Festival. Here we see the main character, the bull who dies and is magically resurrected by the music.
