Religious Devotion

2004, 199 x 147 cm, Acrylic on canvas

If Brazil is home to hundreds of religions, Salvador is probably its capital, from hard-core Catholic to rubberized umbanda, through ethylated syncretism, mystics, hysterics, magicians and charlatans, bucket churches and cathedrals of cash by the million. Where many of Antonino's paintings feature remarkable eyes, here the supplicant has none.
